Progress is happening slowly on this. I've found myself swamped at work, but given my current situation I'm not minding that. It does mean I may be absent from the Club for a few weeks. Looking at billable hours extending into the evenings. I won't be there tonight either but that's due to a stag night for a friend getting hitched this weekend. Anyway, I've put together a couple of maps. Can people grab these and let me know which one they prefer? Which is more readable and which has the best grid etc. My preference would be for one of these to be picked as it takes a little time to assemble them from scratch. The images are attached to this post. Could people also express interest in taking part in a test run of the campaign. There won't be any actual battles. I'll simulate that. It's the campaign system that I'm wanting to test. If you are interested assemble a fleet of 1500 points (does anyone want to suggest a different number, I'm pulling that one out of thin air) and post it to this site. Just add it as a blog post. Once you've done that link that post in a comment on this post. Comments welcomed. New map uploaded: cyan_red Better contrast?

Eratta for Buried in the Badlands
Hi Gold
Need to put in an extra line in the Border Patrol Rules, under the Army specific section, which reads as this.
* An Ogre Hero can be purchased up to 165pts
I can amend the hard copies but not sure how to do it on the website, are you able to do this for me.
Cheers
Aaron
Done.
Like this?

I'll change ownership of the book to you at some point. That will allow you to edit it. Just a little swamped at the moment.
Full Thrust Campain
Nice work Gold.
The Cyan one is alot easier to see. Although are you able to make the text colour different to make it stand out a bit more? Some of the text is a little difficult to read.
In terms of fleet construction, I think it would be easiest if people were to use the fleets in the fleet books rather than making their own up at this stage.
There are alot of extra "beta" fleets that have been authorised by GZG, but not officially published yet. The rules for these fleets are available here: http://fullthrust.star-ranger.com/
These could be used to add a bit of variety if we have alot of players in the campain without having the complication of creating new ships and giving people some idea of what they are going up against.
Food for thought anyway
Full Thrust Campain
I agree with Chris the Cyan one is a lot easier to see. I also agree on his second point that it would be easiest if people were to use the fleets in the fleet books rather than making their own up at this stage.
Unfortunately my fleet is not in any of the fleet books but I can use the "beta" fleet in the link provided by Chris.
Before this campaign starts I would like to get some more games under my belt so I don't become an annoyance to others by asking stupid rules questions.
Fleets; Yep. I actually
Fleets; Yep. I actually meant that people construct the fleets from the existing fleet lists.
Games; agreed. Chris and I had a game at natcon(?) where we constructed a fleet using alternative ships from the fleet lists. Getting to use the other systems that were included in those was a bit of an eye opener. The vast number of systems that we've not used yet leaves a lot of variety for us to explore.
Torpedoes are fun... :)
Sounds like a plan
Sounds like a plan, I can do up to 2000 points, so what ever point level you set for the campaign make it under 2000 points.
I was thinging of doing an order some time to Eureka minitures if any one is interested they can join me and save on postage.
Fleets
Yep, Agree with you on the fleet construction. I wasn't actually meaning for people to assemble their fleets from scratch. More list the ships from an existing fleet roster.
On that topic though, do you think 1500 points an appropriate amount for a test run?
Fleets
1500 points may be a bit to much.
I did a tally up of the four main fleets and two beta fleets, using the ships you get in the starter sets (4x Frigates, 2x Light Cruisers, 1x Heavy Cruiser and 1x Battleship) and got the following results:
FSE: 1326 points
ESU: 1459 points
NSL: 1391 points
NAC: 1319 points
UNSC: 1609 points
IF: 1393 points
Starter sets are the quickest and cheapest way to get a fleet started so I think they would be a good place to base the campaign around. (Start sets cost $46.26 + postage and are readily available from here: http://eurekamin.com.au/index.php?currency=NZD&cPath=204_311_320&sort=3a )
So if we make the fleet points value 1400, the starter sets are good to go straight away, and those few that are over points, just have to knock a model or two off. The other option is to make fleets something like 1500 points, have 1000 points deploy at the beginning of the campaign, and the remaining 500 points used as reinforcements.
These reinforcements deploy at the fleets home base and may be deployed either a) when your original 1000 points is destroyed, or b) at anytime so long as the total points value of the deployed fleet does not exceed 1000.
I'm just a bit worried about people having to fill their points up by doubling up on ships and running out of models when they all have to be deployed at once.
Something to think about anyway.
fleets vs ships
Interesting point.
However, this would only crop up if the ship mix in any one fleet marker exceeded the available models available.
We should make an amendment to the combat section.
I suggest the addition of the following;
Thoughts? Does it need rewording? Does anyone have an alternative way of handling it?
fleets vs ships
I think that is clear enough. 1500 points could be a go. We will have to playtest a wee bit and see how it works out
Fleets
Strange how the UNSC fleet is larger in terms of points than the others listed here was this list created with NPV or CPV and which will be used for the campaign.
Chris, will you be at the club this week if so do you want a game to give me a chance of learning the rules a bit better.
Fleets
Ship for ship, the UNSC ships are stronger than those of the other nations.
I had been using the NPV, reason being, the calculator I made uses NPV and a couple of the fleet pages do not have CPV for the ships
Fleets
I assume you have seen this http://www.star-ranger.com/Stuff/FB2Dplaytest.xls
It is the most up to date calculator I have seen.

I'll see what I can do with the text. With the background being composed of light and dark areas it's going to be hard to get just the right colour. I'll see if there's also an option for a shadow. That may make things stand out a bit.
Maps
The red lettering is better. Have you tried white text with a black outline?
mkhexgrid
From what I've seen the tool doesn't do that.
